Stone Mason, Drum Maker, Artist, Musician
David Williams is a musician, singer and composer. His music is grounded in the traditions of the Lakota Nation and draws from his international experiences, as well as his studies of ancient spiritual practices.
David began his musical journey as a child of five, singing with his father and studying music theory. He began playing piano and guitar soon after and formed his first band at 13. His extensive musical experience includes concert choir, church choir, stage band, orchestra, barbershop quartet, blue grass band, country western band, jazz and swing band, rock bands and solo performance.
Today, David brings his rich musical background to Lakota ceremony throughout Western United States and Mexico. David uses his soulful voice and drum to guide participants in connecting to Spirit, aligning with Mother Earth and strengthening their intention. The powerful synergy of Voice, Drum and the Lakota Language in ceremonial song creates powerful connections with people… with the earth.
The Drum is the embodiment of the heartbeat. It is the rhythm of Mother Earth and the human heart. The Voice in ceremonial song opens the throat to move energy through the entire body, to the level of spirit.
The Lakota Language resonates with Mother Earth. The language has no punctuation points; it is continuous and has no word for time. It has the motion of the energy of life on earth.
David honors his heritage by living his everyday life with deep reverence for the teachings of his ancestors. He embraces the Lakota traditions and continues to learn and grow in the ways of his people. It is through his participation in Lakota ceremony that he shares these traditions with others.
David was born at Rosebud, South Dakota. His mother is from the Sicangu Band of the Lakota Nation and his father was Hunkpapa and Ihanktuwan Lakota. He is the father of three children and has two wonderful grandchildren. David and his partner Linda live in Topanga, CA and Santa Fe New Mexico.
